The thing homeowners underestimate most is the corrections.

If your permit goes through the first time with no corrections, that's a unicorn, and great job on you. Usually, expect one or two rounds of corrections. People expect architects, engineers and designers to get it right on the first try, but it's not going to be the first try. There are usually a couple of rounds of corrections before the city stamps the approval.
